Obituary

Sylvia Steed Huber, a woman of boundless faith, creativity, and dedicated service, passed away at the age of 87, on Thursday, February 6, 2025 after a life well lived.

Born to B.M. and Opal Isley, who preceded her in death, Sylvia carried forward a legacy of love. Sylvia cherished her family. She was a loving mother to her two sons, Tommy  (Bennea) and Richard (Leigh) and a devoted grandmother to Trey (Nichole), Sara Margaret (Josh), Maisie (Andrew) Kendall (Joseph), Danny and Rebekah. Her legacy continued to grow through her beloved great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Eliza, Shelby, Olive, Owen, Emma and Evan. Her children, grand children and great grandchildren were her greatest blessing.

She was a proud graduate of the University of Georgia, where she cultivated her passion for art and education. As an art educator, she inspired countless students, encouraging them to see the world through a more colorful and expressive lens.

A devoted member of the United Methodist Church, Sylvia's spirit of kindness and commitment to her faith touched all who knew her. She led the Steven Ministry and counseled countless people with the words of Christ. She prayed fervently and without ceasing.

Sylvia's love for beauty extended beyond the classroom. A gifted seamstress, she created stunning pieces that reflected her talent and keen eye for detail. Her hands, always busy with a creative endeavor, were equally at home guiding a paintbrush, stitching fabric, or gently tending to the horses she so adored.

Her dedication to service went beyond her personal passions; she also gave her time and talents to the community as a member of the city council, working to make a difference in the lives of those around her.

Sylvia's life was one of faith, creativity, and generosity. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, stitched together by her love and devotion to family, community, and the arts. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the lives she touched and the beauty she left behind.
