Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Ann Padgett, age 84, of Powder Springs, GA passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024.

Shirley was born on December 8, 1939, in Rome, GA to the late Mr. Woodrow Wilson Walters and Mrs. Margaret Lila Hall Walters. A longtime resident of Powder Springs, she was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 65 years. Shirley loved to cook, and took great pride in her apple muffins, tea cakes, and fried apple pies. She spent hours cooking fresh vegetables to share with her family and many friends. Everyone loved her fried okra. Shirley's favorite holiday was Christmas. Setting up the Christmas Village was a major undertaking that she did with tremendous joy. She was well-known through her work as a manager at GreyStone Power, where she retired in 2002.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Thomas "Tommy" Padgett. Tommy and Shirley were inseparable, spending hours together on the back porch, and enjoying conversation with numerous neighbors and friends.  She is also survived by her brothers, Wilson Walters (Sue) of Alabama, Larry Walters (Connie) of Hiram, and Jerry Walters (Karen) of Smyrna and their children and grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Woodall (Jack) of Littleton, Colorado; nephews, Bill Woodall and Gary Woodall, and niece, Alice Cook; God children, Denise and Ronny Little of Powder Springs, Ashley and Steve Smith of Cartersville, and Kayla Little of Dallas . She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby Walters (Billie Jean) and Harry Walters and her God child, Josh Little.
