Mr. Roy "Possum" Austin, age 97, of Douglasville, GA (Paulding County) passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Mr. Austin was born on January 9, 1927 in Georgia to the late Mr. James Roy Austin and the late Mrs. Alice Luvenia Aiken Austin. Roy, who was affectionately known as Possum, was a hard-working farmer for 37 1/2 years. He raised chickens and cows. He loved to bale hay and enjoyed fox and rabbit hunting. He loved his Bruton Snuff, nature, his family, and his friends. He also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Mrs. Grace Austin; daughter, Charlotte Vandiver; son, Wayne Austin.

Survivors include his sons, Randy Austin (Pat) and Ray Austin (Angela); daughters, Janice Southerland and Cheryl Hembree (Billy); 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Tom Austin; sister, Bobbie Jean Leggett.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 at 2:00pm at Melrose Hills Memorial Park with Rev. Wayne Strickland officiating. Interment to follow at the cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.
