Obituary

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Skinner (94), better known to everyone as "Betty," passed away peacefully on February 7, 2021, in Rome, GA. Betty was born August 24, 1926, New South Wales, Australia to the late Harry and Mary Wheat. She and her husband, the late Reverend Doctor Craig P. Skinner, along with their 3 daughters traveled from Australia to the US multiple times throughout the 1960s-70s in their service to the Baptist Church. Betty had a great love for music and was happiest using her beautiful voice and playing piano and organ in church. After permanently emigrating to the US, Betty lived in California for many years. After retirement, she and Dr. Skinner moved to Hiram, Georgia.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband Craig of 53 years, and brothers Alex and Gordon Wheat. She is survived by family in Australia and the US: daughters Joy Smith (Rick), Julie Chisholm, and Carol Headen; grandchildren JJ Seifert (Will), Casey Reason (Brady), Alison Chisholm (Sarah), and Sam Headen (Tahlia); and 5 great-grandchildren: Cole, Carson Claire, Sadie, Brody & Harry and many extended family in Australia.

The family will receive visitors at Bellamy Funeral Home in Hiram, GA, from 6-8pm on Tuesday, February 9. Social distancing measures will be observed, and masks are requested by the family. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, February 10 at 11:00 a.m., at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Hiram, Interment will follow at Paulding Memorial Gardens.
