Obituary

MARY INEZ (STORY) BULL

BORN MARCH 31, 1916

DIED DECEMBER 5, 2015

Mary Inez (Story) Bull passed away December 5, 2015 at age 99. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Renna Story, and her husbands, Jimmy Hurst and Clarence Bull. She is also preceded in death by brother Carl Story, and sisters Emmie Jennings and Florence Jennings.

While Mrs. Bull did not have children, she played a key role in her family – helping with the care of her nephews Roy Storey, M. J. Jennings, and niece Marjorie Ingram. As a young woman, she would watch three small children while other family members worked on the farm. She is preceded in death by M. J. Jennings. She is survived by Roy and Marjorie along with many great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She loved them all.

Known as Inez by family and friends, she was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church since childhood. She and her husband Jimmy Hurst were at church every Sunday, or then just Inez after she lost Jimmy, but always accompanied by her sister Florence Jennings. The reason for this was that Miss Inez was blind since age 3 due to meningitis. As children, she and Florence had been inseparable, after her illness. They played together holding hands. If Inez got hurt, she'd tell Florence she wouldn't cry if Florence wouldn't.

Inez made a strong impression on all who met her. At age 11, she attended a special school for the blind in Macon; however, she was so homesick that she convinced her parents to let her come home. After only seven months of formal schooling, she had learned Braille and continued her education through the mail. She was so excited when she was able to receive audio books! She read her Bible routinely at church.

Inez was a homemaker, a very hard worker, and an inspiration to everyone. Blindness was never a handicap to Miss Inez – she found a way to do whatever needed to be done. A woman of strong faith and many accomplishments, Mary Inez Bull was a special and remarkable lady.
