Martha Catherine Barney
October 1, 1951 - December 16, 2023

Our beloved mother, our beloved Nana, our beloved sister in Christ, our beloved friend, Mrs Martha Catherine Barney, passed away on Saturday the 16th of December 2023.

Kathy, as she preferred to be known, was a Georgia peach, born on October 1st 1951 to the late Mr Tommy Branch and the late Mrs Lucille Freeman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, two sisters, her son, Little Johnny, and her husband, Bill.

Survivors include her children: Allen (wife Nikki), Christina (husband Joe) and Jason. Her grandchildren: Nickolas, Noah, Lacey, Jayleigh, Lyla, Cannon and Éire. Great grandchildren: twins Eden and Willow.

As a mother, she was our comforter, our teacher and our friend. She always knew how to make us feel better when we were sick or down. She taught us how to be good in this world and how to love. Most importantly, she brought God into our lives and without God's strength, we would still be on our knees at the loss of her.

As a Nana, she shined the brightest. Having grandchildren brought out a second childhood in Kathy. She was the nana that would ride scooters, play games, bake treats and offer endless cuddles. Kathy was looking forward to soon being a great grandmother to twins, Eden and Willow. She would have held them for hours. Now she will be their guardian angel and ours.

Her dogs were her babies away from her human babies and they kept her busy and young. Kathy would spend hours playing with Chewy in the water sprinkler and playing tetherball with Maya. She spoiled her dogs just like she spoiled the rest of us. Always so giving, especially with her time.

There is so much more to Kathy that could ever be put to words. If the world knew the depth of beauty, strength and grace that has left it, the world would stop and mourn with us.

We have been truly blessed with the joyful experience of being loved by our mother, our Nana, our sister in Christ and our friend. Loving her in return, is an honour.

Thank you God, our Father, for your blessing of strength and the blessing of faith that allows us to trust that we will embrace Kathy once again. Next time, forever.
