Margaret Betty Bookout, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the age of 84. Her life was a testament to unwavering love, devotion, and attentiveness to her family.

Margaret was born on November 20th, 1939, and spent her formative years in a close-knit family, with her only brother Kenneth, where she learned the values of hard work and compassion. At the tender age of 15, she married her childhood sweetheart, Ben Bookout, on June 8th 1956. Their enduring love story spanned over six decades, a remarkable journey that began in their youth and blossomed into a lifetime of shared adventures and affection.

As a dedicated homemaker for 50 years, Margaret devoted herself to creating a nurturing and loving home for her family. She took immense pride in taking care of Ben, all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cooking was her God given talent and was one of her most cherished gifts by her family. Her ability to keep a spotless house never wavered. The family has often joked that her toilets were cleaned so well that you could eat off of them.

Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she took great pleasure in their company, watching them grow and thrive. Margaret's generosity, kindness, and fierce spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She was incredibly fierce when it came to her "babies" and always made sure everyone around her was well cared for.

Margaret had a profound love for reading, finding joy and solace in the pages of her favorite books. She was the family Jeopardy champion and was an incredible speller. Her "little dog" Daisy was her constant companion, bringing comfort and joy to her daily life. She also delighted in the simple pleasures of shopping at Goodwill, where she found hidden treasures and enjoyed the thrill of a good bargain. Shopping with her girls was one of her most favorite pastimes whether it was Walmart, Hand-me-Ups or another thrift store. She was the queen of bargains and making her dollar stretch for miles. This was yet again, another way she cared for those around her.

Her legacy of love, dedication, and joy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Jewell Thelma Hood and Blanche Gertrude Swanson Hood; husband, Ben Bookout; son, Wes Bookout.

Survivors include her daughter, Bennea Steed (Tommy) of Dallas; brother, Kenneth Hood of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Trey Steed (Nicole), Sara Margaret Reid (Josh), Emma Bookout, and Evan Bookout; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Steed, Eliza Jane Reid, Shelby Margot Reid, and Olive Mae Reid; daughter-in-love, Sue Cash (Jim), Kim Neisler (Mark), Max and Mason.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 1, 2024 at 3:00pm from the Chapel of Bellamy Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Bellamy, Mrs. Sara Margaret Reid, Mr. Tommy Steed, and Rev. Steven McEntyre officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 1, 2024 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm.
