Obituary

Jon Ashley Mendenhall went home to meet his best friend Jesus Saturday March 19, 2022. Jon passed comfortably with his family by his side. He was a devoted husband, father and grandpa. He loved his wife Mary Kathryn, his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren dearly. Grandpa Jon will be remembered for his steadfast example of love and faith.

Jon was born July 15, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa. He loved spending time outdoors – fishing, picking blueberries, watching the birds and squirrels play and maintaining his beautiful lawn and flowers. He passed down that love to his three children. Jon retired from AT & T in 1990 and spent the next 32 years enjoying retirement with his wife Mary.

Jon was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Powder Springs where he served as a Deacon and sang in several choirs and men's groups. He had a lifelong passion for music that he used to glorify his Heavenly Father. There is no doubt Heaven's choir is a little sweeter now that Jon has joined it.

In his last days he often spoke of his desire to go meet Jesus face to face. He talked about his love for the Lord and his love for his family. Jon always made sure his family knew that he loved them and that he loved the Lord and they should too.

Jon was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Mary Kathryn Mendenhall, his father Benjamin Mendenhall, his mother Mary Giles Mendenhall and his sister Shirley Boese.

Jon is survived by his daughter Mary (Wade) Tuggle, sons Mike (Melanie) Mendenhall, Mark (Leilani) Mendenhall, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and number 11 on the way.
