Howell Edward "Ed" Higgins, Jr. of Old Lost Mountain Road, Powder Springs, Georgia quietly passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Cobb Wellstar Hospital's Tranquility Hospice Center in Austell, Georgia after a long battle with bladder cancer.

Ed was born on July 16, 1942, in Toccoa, Georgia. His parents are the late "Howell" Edward Higgins, Sr and Kathleen Sally McKinney Golding. He leaves behind a daughter Paige and her husband Johnny Cobbler of Toccoa; grandson Mitch Cobbler of Newport, N.C., granddaughter Kaitlyn and her husband Joshua Mitchell, and great grandchildren Harper and Blake Mitchell of Toccoa, Georgia.

Ed graduated from Stephens County High School in Toccoa, Georgia in 1961. In addition to his years of life in Stephens County, he also lived many years of his adult life in Powder Springs Georgia and for several years in Winder, Georgia.

Throughout his life, Ed was sustained and supported by a loving family including aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong dearest friends. In particular, the family wishes to express their appreciation to LaReesia Cooper and Thomas and LaVerne Elsberry for their sustained friendship and support to Edward across his life.

Ed was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs and was the volunteer leader of the church sponsored AA group meeting house adjacent to the church. His leadership in that group for the past 15 years is celebrated by dozens of friends who credit Ed as their inspiration to discover hope as they embraced the program's 12 principles of sobriety that opened the door to living life with Peace, Joy, and Purpose. Ed had a special way of making every person feel that they were special and loved.

The family will receive friends and visitors at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the sanctuary of the Powder Springs First Baptist Church. The funeral will begin at 2:00 at the same location. Rev. Alan Davis will conduct the service.

Interment will be after the funeral at the Powder Springs Cemetery.

Bellamy Funeral Home of Hiram Georgia is in charge of services and receiving flowers. Additionally, in lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage those who wish to give that they make a donation to the Powder Springs Baptist Church earmarked for maintenance of the Alcohol Anonymous Program supported by the church.
