Mr. Edward Lee Daniel, age 96, of Dallas, GA passed away Friday, November 1, 2024.
Mr. Daniel was born on July 10, 1928 in Keener, AL to the late Mr. William T. Daniel and the late Mrs. Mary Gladden Daniel. Edward spent most of his young life in Lipscomb, Alabama and graduated from Jones Valley High School in 1947. From 1947-1950 he worked as an assistant manager at S.H. Kress. Mr. Daniel proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and was a Korean War Veteran. After his service in the Air Force, he attended Auburn University from 1954-1957 and graduated with the highest of honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. A major turning point in his life was in 1957 when Edward became a Christian. He started working for ITT Laboratories in Atlanta, GA from 1957-1959 and around that time he met his first wife, Vivian Thomason at church. From 1960-1992, he worked for Honeywell in Clearwater, Florida and did development work for computer memories for space applications and components engineer on electronic par. In 1992, Edward retired and moved to Paulding County. From 1995-2002, he volunteered to mentor and tutor middle and high school students at Matthews Learning Center. "Mr. Daniel", as his students lovingly called him, has continuously said to friends and family that Matthews Learning Center was, "the best thing that ever happened to me". After the death of his first wife, Vivian in 1999, Edward reconnected with a former high school classmate, Gene Williams Chapman in 2002, and they married in 2004. In 2015, Gene passed away. Before Edward's passing, he was still able to live alone and enjoy his life with God's help and the help of wonderful neighbors and friends. Edward was a member of Dallas First Assembly of God.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Vivan Thomason Daniel; second wife, Gene Williams Daniel; daughter, Diana Erwin; and sister, Sue Crittenden.
Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Matthews (Michael) of Dallas, GA; brother, Norman Daniel (Cheryl) MacClenny, FL; brother-in-law, Don Crittenden, Marietta, GA; one grandson, Ryan Pursser (Beca), Palm Coast, FL; nieces, nephews, step-family, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Bellamy Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Williams officiating. Interment to follow at Peaceful Meadows Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.
In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Paulding County Educational Foundation. Donations may be mailed to 522 Hardee Street, Dallas, GA 30132 reference Edward L Daniel Scholarship.
