Obituary

May, Derek Lamar, age 47, of Dallas, GA passed from this life to his heavenly home on Friday, March 5, 2021. Derek was a graduate of North Cobb High School and Chattahoochee Technical College. He was a member of the West Metro church of Christ in Hiram, GA.

Derek was formerly employed as the Manager of the Mechanic Shop at Manheim Georgia, a Division of Cox Enterprises. Derek fought an extended battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), complicated by Richter's Syndrome. He received a bone marrow transplant at MD Anderson in Houston in late 2019.

Derek is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Myers May along with sons Dylan and Ethan. He is survived by parents Thomas Lamar May and Judy Kendrick May, a brother, David Hayes (Sue), a sister, Cindy May Salyers (Steve) and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

God and his family were Derek's main focus in life! He loved to teach his boys about his passions, especially how to use his smoker to create wonderful meals. He was a great coach and teacher to Dylan and Ethan and other boys and girls in youth sports during the good times of his long fight!

A private family service will be held to celebrate his life in the near future. If desired, friends may make donation in his honor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (https://www.lls.org/) or send flowers to Bellamy Funeral Home.
