Charles Gardner Storrs, devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, his mother's birthday, at the age of 78. In his final moments he had his wife, Holly (Hyun Soon); his son, Joe; his daughter, Anne; and his brother, Bob, by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Holly; son, Joseph Samuel Storrs, and his wife Christy; daughter, Anne Storrs Keenan, and her husband Tyler; four granddaughters, Louise, Jane, Clara, and Olivia; and younger brother, Robert S. Storrs. Charles joins his parents, Joan and Gardner, and his older brother, James, in heaven.

Born on March 4, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, Charles' childhood was filled with joy, playfulness, inventiveness, and some mischief with his brothers. He earned his degree in Forestry from North Carolina State University, then headed to Idaho to work with firefighters. He later enlisted in the United States Peace Corp, trained in Hawaii, and served in South Korea, where he first met Holly. Fluent in Korean, Charles spent months corresponding with Holly and her family through hand-written letters. After Holly emigrated to the United States, she married Charles in Los Angeles, California. Together, they built a life full of love and adventure.

Holly and Charles welcomed their son, Joe, while living in Fort Collins, Colorado, and later their daughter, Anne, in Largo, Florida. Charles' family eventually settled in Powder Springs, Georgia to raise their family while Charles worked as a cartographer mapping wetlands for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Charles was deeply devoted to his family, who were the true center of his life. His greatest joy came from spending time with those he held dear, always prioritizing their happiness and well-being. He taught his children the value of hard work and instilled his principles of integrity, patience, and kindness. As a father, grandfather, and father figure to many, his unwavering support and guidance will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

During his time in Powder Springs, Charles was an active member of the Powder Springs First United Methodist Church. He was deeply involved in his church community as a member of The Men's Club and cultivated lifelong friendships in his Sunday School class, touching the lives of all of those whose paths he crossed with his service and devotion to the Lord.

In 2008, Charles and Holly relocated to Mobile, Alabama, joined Central Presbyterian Church, volunteered countless hours at their food bank, and served as a deacon. During this time, Charles was consulting for a land management company and the US Geological service.

In 2023, Charles and Holly returned to Powder Springs to reunite with their church community. Wherever his travels took him, Charles, led by his servant heart, sought out every opportunity to devote his time, experience, and kindred spirit unto others.

Charles had a deep passion for exploring and discovering new places. Following his service in the Peace Corps, he travelled throughout the Asia-Pacific region, working odd jobs to get to the next experience including as a dock worker and shrimp boat cook. He enjoyed long road trips with his family and friends, guided only by a map, his pioneering spirit, and an uncanny ability to find hotel vacancies along the way. Charles also enjoyed playing rugby in his younger years, tending to his gardens, riding his bicycle, cooking, and an occasional glass of Drambuie.

Any room that Charles walked in would light up with his contagious smile and infectious laughter.  Charles was always glad to see you, no matter who you were.  He was such a delightful person to be around, and his kindness, jokes, and laughter will be so deeply missed.

Charles' life will be celebrated on Friday, January 24, 2025 at the Powder Springs First United Methodist Church with a memorial service scheduled for 2:00 p.m., and a reception to follow at the Church's Fellowship Hall. The Church is located at 4329 Marietta Street, Powder Springs, Georgia 30127, and the family welcomes all of those who wish to honor Charles' life of generosity, kindness, humor, and love, to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those so inclined to make donations in Charles' name to either: Powder Springs First United Methodist Church or U.S. Peace Corps .
