Obituary

Charles "Charlie" M.  Abernathy, of Powder Springs, a beloved husband and father, bluegrass musician and businessman, passed away at the age of 83 on October 27, 2023.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Bellamy Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Bellamy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Cartersville Sunset Memory Gardens, 790 Indian Mounds Road, Cartersville, Georgia, on November 2, 2023, at 3:00 pm.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 1st from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Thursday, November 2nd from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.

Born on July 2, 1940, in Hiram, Georgia, Charles leaves behind a legacy of integrity, talent, and selflessness. Known for his honesty and dedication, Charles thrived as a car salesman and was widely respected in the business community. He possessed a rare musical gift and was honored to be inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame for his contributions to bluegrass music. Charles's bands, the Ramblin Grass and Roanokes, entertained countless audiences with their performances.

Beyond his professional achievements, Charles was extremely humble and had a generous spirit. He always approached life with a giving heart, ready to lend a helping hand or share his last possession. His acts of kindness touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered as a true beacon of compassion.

Charles is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Abernathy; children, Scott Abernathy (Jill), Tina Wix (Mike), Steve Abernathy (Laurie), Tonia Chatwood (Michael), and Teffany Schall (Thomas); sister, Lois Banister; 15 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ovell Abernathy, daughter, Tammy Martinelli, and his brothers, Alvin, Oertel, Grady and Raymond Abernathy.

Charles will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever inspire us to be kind, compassionate, and generous.
